I have been a teacher for more than fourteen years, and I mostly work with kids in grades 6–10, teaching the IB's Design Technology as well as Individuals & Societies (Social Sciences) subjects. In my career as a teacher, I've been able to work in a variety of different cultures, including Beijing, Jakarta, Singapore, and now Shenzhen, China. To improve teaching and learning, I'm currently concentrating on my curriculum creation, instructional design, and technology integration while I study for a master's degree in education.
In my classroom I lead students through interactive, project-based learning units in Design Technology. We cover concepts like furniture design, food technology, visualizing data with Infographics, building skateboard decks, and much much more. My goal is to help my students become more creative and critical thinkers by assisting them in making connections between our classroom concepts and real-world problems.
My Professional Growth Plan is focused on extending and aligning my current units toward our school's mission, and this is one of my main professional goals for this academic year as well. This goal is part of my larger endeavor to enhance my teaching methods going forward, particularly around implementing innovative strategies that grab students' attention, including assessment techniques that promote active learning and reduce the desire for students to use artificial intelligence inappropriately. In addition to teaching, I'm now working on starting a drone club at my school. To prepare students for micro drone contests, my long-term objective here is to provide them with an immersive, hands-on learning experience in drone flight and FPV drone racing. I see this group as a chance for kids to foster a spirit of self-guided learning and creativity, in addition to developing their technical abilities.
I have a strong interest in technology, creativity, and education, and I'm constantly seeking new methods to enhance the learning opportunities I provide in my classroom. My desire to provide interesting, relevant learning experiences for my students and others motivates me to keep ahead of developing trends in education.
